Teacher welfare will be the top focus in the upcoming national budget, says Education Minister Aseri Radrodro.

Mr Radrodro confirmed that proposals have been submitted, with teacher retention and support listed as key priorities.

“We want to ensure teachers are well taken care of. Their welfare is a top priority,” Mr Radrodro said.

The ministry is also seeking funding to improve school infrastructure, especially for schools damaged by fires or ageing facilities, including several boarding schools.

Mr Radrodro says this year’s education budget must focus on key areas that directly support teachers and improve school conditions nationwide.

He also highlighted the importance of continuing Social Policy Assistance Programmes, which support students and families through various education-related aid.

“We need to rebuild some of these schools and improve the learning environment for our students,” he said.

As part of the 2025-2026 National Budget request, the ministry is also pushing for funds to build one new school and rebuild two existing schools. The call for increased education funding comes at a time when many communities are demanding better facilities and support for teachers and students alike.

Mr Radrodro said these investments were crucial for the long-term growth of the nation’s education system.

“We must act now to build a stronger future for our children,” he said.
