Another fun activity to do while in Suva is the use of Qaqi Mai, Fiji’s first ever bike sharing venture that provides electric bikes for hire.

Qaqi Mai which translates to ‘walk it’ is a humorous local expression of saying ‘walk home’.

Sparked from the daily challenges in commuting along the Suva – Nausori corridor, founder Eliki Dakuitoga initiated the business idea to introduce electric bicycles as an eco-friendly alternate to public transportation.

Qaqi Mai electric bicycles features puncture-proof tyres, GPS tracking, and easy maintenance.

Currently stationed along Queen Elizabeth Drive in Nasese, the Qaqi Mai team provide customers an opportunity to try the electric bicycles for hire.

The charge for hire varies depending on the number of hours each customer wishes to hire the electric bicycle.

Current charges are $10 per hour, $25 for three hours, $30 for half-day and $45 for a full day (eight hour).

Each customer is provided a bicycle helmet and reflector vest for protection while cycling on the road.

Qaqi Mai’s current Tavale fleet features electric bicycles that are designed to provide an eco-friendly and efficient mode of transportation, which aligned with Fiji’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and reduce carbon emissions.

Qaqi Mai plans to introduce more fleets to help further enhance Fiji's green transport landscape and offer greater accessibility to clean mobility options for everyone.
