Former Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, will not be a member of the Constitutional Offices Commission, it has been confirmed.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum is also not a member of Parliament.

In a statement, Opposition leader and FijiFirst leader, Josaia Bainimarama, highlighted that Mr Sayed-Khaiyum would be taking charge of issues outside of Parliament including legal battles.

The party will seek legal address on matters of interest.

Mr Bainimarama claimed that some people are questioning why Government was ‘stubbornly and recklessly’ undermining their rights and freedoms under the 2013 Constitution.

“In the last 24 hours, multiple Fijians have directly and/or indirectly approached us for assistance in seeking redress against the repressive and oppressive conduct that this Government has continued to display since taking office,” he said.

“We will nominate a suitably qualified individual as our nominee to the COC.”
