Corrections Commissioner shortlist being finalised, says Turaga

The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is finalising the shortlisting process for the vacant Commissioner post at the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS).
This was confirmed by Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga yesterday, as Acting Commissioner Auta Moceisuva remains among those tipped for the post.
Mr Turaga said applications had been received and an independent panel would conduct interviews before a shortlist is presented.

He said the COC would then decide on the appointment with his concurrence as the responsible Minister.
“COC will then determine with the concurrence of the minister responsible, which is me. We haven’t reached that stage yet,” Mr Turaga said.
Leadership
Mr Turaga praised Mr Moceisuva’s leadership since taking over in an acting capacity, saying the institution had stabilised under the latter’s watch.
“I’m quite happy with the leadership of the acting commissioner,” he said.
“When you compare in 2023 when he came on board, under the former commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa, and currently, the institution has stabilised.”
Mr Turaga said Mr Moceisuva had also served in United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions, which he said had shaped his leadership skills.
The post has been vacant since the sacking of former commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa in February over nepotism and misconduct findings.
