For Maria Rosa, 22, of Lokia, Rewa, joining the military was more than a career.
It is a journey of perseverance and a promise to build a better future for her two sons.
She was among Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ 145 recruits who were part of the passing-out parade on Friday at the RFMF Forces’ Training Group (FTC) in Nasinu.

Her journey was not easy.
As a single mother of two, Rosa, who now has the rank of Private, says her determination to succeed was driven by her desire to provide the best for her sons, and to prove that difficult circumstances should not determine a person’s future.
Her three months away from home for training also meant relying on her parents to care for her two sons. The experience has broadened her understanding and given her valuable knowledge and life experience.
Private Rosa thanked God for her success.
Her story is ultimately one of resilience: a young mother who refused to allow her circumstances to define her future, choosing instead to persevere, embrace the challenge and work towards a better life for her children.
As one of the 145 recruits, Private Rosa now stands as an example that determination, family support, faith and perseverance can help turn difficult circumstances into a pathway towards a new beginning.
