The two head prefects of Pundit Vishnu Deo Memorial College in Lautoka are proud to have become the first in their families to be given the role and responsibility.

For head boy Jashnil Naidu his father, Shailendar Naidu, couldn’t have been more proud of his only child.

Mr Naidu said: “My son was selected as a prefect at Gurukul Primary School and I told him to aim at becoming the head boy in the secondary school you attend.

“I am so proud of my son. I want the best for him and I am glad that the school principal and teachers have trust in him to lead the student council.”

Jashnil said he was ready to lead and be a good role model.

“I want to lead by example and be a role model for all students in the school,” Jashnil said.

He strongly believes in not abusing the powers when given in leadership, but to use it wisely, responsibly and with good integrity.

Head girl Joana Uluinakasaleka, never imagined herself as a head girl of a school. Just like Jashnil, she is also an only child.

“There is nothing impossible in leadership for a woman, and I look forward to giving respect and earning respect as a female in leadership,” Joana said.

She looks forward to conducting her role and making sure that the prefects are active in carrying out their duties.

She aspires to become a doctor.

The duo were selected to lead the school’s student council because they were outspoken and humble, school principal, Ravindra Deo Varman said.

They are responsible students who can manage the academic pressures and leadership role, he added.
