The Fijian man who died in the hospital after allegedly being ambushed by three men in Sydney, Australia, on Saturday, has been identified as Josese McGoon.

Police said the victim, aged 37, was walking on Bangor Street in Guildford around 1:45 pm on Saturday with another man when they were attacked by the men wearing black clothing and face covering.

South Sydney Police Area Commander Superintendent Andrew Holland said reports received in initial investigations found that the two had parked their car on Cardigan Street after eating pizza and were walking towards a property on Bangor Street.

As they passed what appeared to be a blue or silver sedan, the three males allegedly jumped out of the car and started attacking them.

The second man was reportedly able to escape by distracting one of the attackers, while the victim sustained severe assault injuries and allegedly suffered “severe” stab wounds to his abdomen.

Shortly after the attackers fled, the man who escaped returned to his car, retrieved the victim from the footpath, and rushed him to Westmead Hospital just after 2:15 pm.

The deceased was identified by a close relative.
