Private Mereani Yabaki of Tailevu was named the Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ Best All-Around Recruit on Friday.

She scooped the top award after completing 12 weeks of demanding training, a journey she credits to perseverance, discipline, commitment and the unwavering support of her family.

Private Yabaki said the training challenged her.

“I kept telling myself ‘I’m not giving up or letting sickness stop me from attending my training,” she said.

She described the 12-week journey as one filled with God’s blessings and provision.

“The experience taught me the importance of being prepared and ready to respond whenever and wherever I am needed.”

While the training was not easy, Ms Yabaki said the challenges ultimately strengthened her determination and contributed to her achievement as the Best All-Around Recruit.

Private Yabaki expressed gratitude to her parents, family and aunties for supporting her.

Her story is one of resilience — showing that despite hardship, illness and challenging training conditions, determination and a refusal to give up can turn adversity into achievement.

Her message was simple: perseverance, preparation and commitment can carry you through even the toughest journey.
