Govt honours Lomaiviti Princess 12 crew for life-saving sea rescue
Traditional ceremony recognises bravery after dramatic 38-hour rescue at sea.

The captain and crew of Goundar Shipping Limited's Lomaiviti Princess 12 (LP12) were formally recognised by the Government today for their bravery and professionalism in rescuing six medical personnel who went missing at sea last week.
A traditional ceremony in Suva was led by Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu and attended by Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Mosese Bulitavu, along with staff from the Office of the Commissioner Eastern Division.
In a statement, the Government said the ceremony recognised the courage, professionalism and selfless service demonstrated by the captain and crew during the rescue operation.

The LP12 crew located and rescued the six medical workers after they had spent about 38 hours adrift at sea while travelling from Lakeba.
The Government said the rescue highlighted the importance of strong partnerships between Government agencies and the private sector in responding to emergencies, particularly in Fiji's rural and maritime communities.
The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management said such collaborations strengthen emergency response capabilities, help overcome logistical challenges and ensure essential services continue to reach maritime communities when needed.
The rescue operation attracted national attention and underscored both the challenges of delivering healthcare across Fiji's scattered islands and the critical role played by maritime operators during emergencies.
