Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has declined to comment on the events that led to the death of Jone Vakarisi while in military custody.
However, when asked on the role of the military in any democracy such as Fiji, the Prime Minister said there was always a path to be played by the military in accordance with the Constitution.
“In the previous constitutions, they could be called to assist the police in a situation where law and order has broken down, where they are given special authority and special powers and powers of police officers,” he said in an exclusive interview yesterday.
