Nadi Town Council workers will receive a 3 per cent cost-of-living adjustment, along with increased meal, shift and wet allowances, following annual negotiations between the council and the National Union of Workers (NUW).

The adjustment will take effect from January 1, with about 40 workers expected to benefit initially.

Council chief executive officer Muni Reddy said the agreement reflected the council’s commitment to recognising and supporting its workforce.

Mr Reddy said the number of workers benefiting from the adjustment could increase as the council continued recruiting additional staff.

He said the negotiations had also resulted in increases to meal and shift allowances, as well as other operational benefits.

Mr Reddy said council workers played an important role in delivering essential services to the people of Nadi.

Senior Industrial Relations Officer and Legal Officer of the NUW, Mererai Vatege, thanked the council for maintaining a positive and respectful relationship with the union.

Ms Vatege said the 3 per cent adjustment and increased meal allowance were important outcomes for workers.

She said other operational allowances had also been agreed upon, benefiting union members.

The union expressed hope that the positive relationship and cooperation with the council would continue.
