Prominent local businessman and one of the four current vice- presidents of the Fiji Football Association, Umarji Aiyaz Mohammed Musa has been jailed in New Zealand.

On May 24, 2021, Musa was elected a member of the FIFA Governance, Audit and Compliance committee.

Chief of Intelligence and Investigations, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sakeo Raikaci said a joint investigation between the Fiji Police Force and New Zealand Police resulted in the conviction of Musa with four other associates.

Musa appeared at the Auckland District Court last Wednesday. He was involved in three separate drug importations into New Zealand in 2017. ACP Raikaci said Musa was the mastermind behind a syndicate importing and exporting illicit drugs throughout the Pacific. He was sentenced to four years.

Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said they would be issuing a press statement today.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru said:

“I don’t know what the Constitution of Fiji FA says, about the board members being jailed, I hope the board will do the right thing.”
