In yet another unprecedented move by the Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, backbencher and newly-appointed SODELA leader Aseri Radrodro, will be reinstated as Minister for Education today.

This was confirmed by Mr Rabuka last night.

He announced Mr Radrodro’s dismissal for “insubordination and disobedience” via the social media platform Facebook earlier this year.

When asked why the change, Mr Rabuka instead said: “You didn’t know that I was giving him three months?

“The three months were up on the 22nd (April), and it’s my choice.”

Mr Radrodro is expected to be sworn-in at State House at 10am.

Learning curb

Mr Radrodro thanked everyone who stood by him.

“I praise God for His grace and I’m grateful to my families and the SODELPA for standing with me through these tough times, especially my wife, Sainiana,” Mr Radrodro said.

“It has been a learning period for me, and we can only endeavour to work hard and serve our people better. I’m also grateful to the honourable PM and the Coalition Government.”

The general secretary of the Social Democratic Liberal Party, Viliame Takayawa, said: “The reinstatement is justice, common sense, and more importantly, compliance with the Coalition Agreement.”

In recent times, Mr Rabuka has been approached on several occasions in relation to SODELPA’s letter calling him to reinstate Mr Radrodro. However, never in those times did the Prime Minister hinted on the three-month period.

Meanwhile Mr Radrodro’s dismissal from ministerial post was made in January 22. The Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, assumed the education portfolio.
