Ratu Joeli Installed As Tui Nawaka

Like his predecessors, newly installed Tui Nawaka, Ratu Joeli Bulu Derenalagi Naevo, has sworn to lead his people and vanua for the betterment of their future generation.
He became the first Tui Nawaka to be anointed inside the Nawaka Village Methodist Church in Nadi on Friday followed by the traditional installation ceremony.
The retired schoolteacher is the 10th Tui Nawaka.

Families and the heads and members of 12 tribes were present during the ceremony.
“I believe that I will always ponder on this gracious day, that it was led by God,” Ratu Joeli said.
“I will make sure that I will always lead and uphold the right teaching, just as it is required by God.
I also am ready to exercise and correctly carry out the work of the vanua, without any prejudice for the betterment of the people.
I will always follow and tread on the teaching of Christ as today I dedicate my life to God.”
The 57-year-old succeeds the late Tui Nawaka, Ratu Tomasi Kanailagi Naevo, who died on July 13 after a short illness.
Ratu Joeli was born on September 26, 1966, attended Nawaka District School, Xavier College in Ba, Lautoka Teachers College (now FNU Natabua Campus) and was a from 1986 until he retired last year.
He is married to Losana and they have five children and 12 grandchildren.
