Rev Turagavou calls for ‘genuine reformation’ in Methodist Church

Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma president Reverend Doctor Semisi Turagavou has called for genuine reformation and spiritual renewal within the church as it begins its 2026 annual conference.
Delivering the sermon at the conference’s Thanksgiving and Opening Service in Suva yesterday, Rev Dr Turagavou called for courageous reflection and change to strengthen the church and its ministry.
Drawing from John 1:19–34 and the testimony of John the Baptist, he said:

“I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord’ — John 1:23,” he quoted in his sermon.
Rev Dr Turagavou urged church members to reflect on John the Baptist’s understanding of his identity and calling.
“He was not the Messiah, Elijah or the Prophet that many expected. Instead, he was the voice, a forerunner, messenger, announcer, and a voice calling for justice, hope and a new direction.
“In a world often divided by differing views, assumptions and human limitations, John pointed beyond himself and boldly declared: ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! — John 1:29.’
Rev Dr Turagavou urged the church to continually look to Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to work within its life and ministry.
“As the Methodist Church in Fiji enters its 2026 Annual Conference, the call is clear: to make straight the way for the Lord; to bear faithful witness to Jesus Christ; and to allow the Spirit of God to remain, work and transform the church.
“May this annual conference be a time of spiritual renewal, courageous reflection, liberation from all that holds us back, and genuine reformation as we continue to elevate Christ’s church to another level,” he said.
Church members also took part in a street march to the Vodafone Arena.
The church’s annual conference and Festival of Praise choir competition will be held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva this week.
