Schools to remain closed as Cyclone Vaianu intensifies

All schools will remain closed tomorrow following the upgrade of Tropical Cyclone Vaianu to a Category 2 cyclone.
The Ministry of Education (MOE), in consultation with the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), issued the advisory in the interest of public safety. Tertiary institutions have been urged to make their own decisions based on prevailing conditions.
Students, including boarders, have been advised to remain at home as authorities continue to monitor the situation. Further updates will be issued as necessary.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has urged parents and guardians to closely supervise children during the severe weather.
He warned against attempting to cross flooded creeks, rivers or drains, and advised that children should not swim in rivers, creeks or the sea during this period.
Parents are encouraged to have children spend time reading or revising schoolwork while they remain at home.
