Two of Fiji’s celebrated sons, sevens rugby legend Waisale Serevi and the Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro have teamed up to inspire and motivate Fijian youths to success.
They launched the Future Leaders Fiji 2025 programme at Nasinu Secondary School yesterday. It is a pilot initiative to motivate the young people of Fiji, especially secondary school students.
Nasinu Secondary is the first school to host this youth engagement session under the Pathways to Purpose initiative, which is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Mr Radrodro, who rose from the humble backgrounds of Naitasiri highlands to become a Government minister, challenged the students to reflect on their own leadership potential.
“Are there leaders in the room?” he asked the students.
Seeing their hesitant response, he said, it showed the importance of helping young people to believe in themselves. Mr Serevi inspired the students with his difficult journey from the young boy from the housing estate of Nasole, Nasinu to be crowned ‘King of 7s rugby.’
“Work hard and believe in your potential,” Mr Serevi said.
Programme background
The Pathways to Purpose programme, says the Ministry of Education, is a national initiative designed to guide young people to see their value, set goals, and make choices that strengthen their families and communities.
Students participated in sessions such as ‘Who am I as a Leader? Traditional Leadership and Values, Women in Leadership, and Safer Communities,’ exploring how leadership starts with personal choices and responsibility.
The programme aims to nurture a generation of young Fijians who are confident, disciplined, and guided by strong values, ready to lead positive change in their communities and across the nation.
It focuses on:
- Building self-worth, discipline, and resilience through mentorship, sports, arts, and culture;
- Supporting young people to make healthy choices and resist peer pressure and substance abuse; and
- Helping students become empowered and purposeful leaders.
