Couple accused of poisoning daughter’s boyfriend to stand trial in June

A trial date has been set for a Sigatoka couple charged with the alleged murder of an 18-year-old student.
Mohammed Naushad and his wife Nazreen Nisha Khan appeared before Justice Riyaz Hamza at the High Court in Lautoka this morning.
They are jointly accused of one count of murder in relation to the death of Jeet Singh.

Naushad also faces an additional charge of criminal intimidation.
The court heard the couple allegedly murdered Singh by forcing him to ingest a chemical at their home in Waiqali Settlement, Maro, Sigatoka, on June 30, 2022.
Singh was believed to have been in a relationship with the couple’s daughter. He was later found lifeless outside his girlfriend’s residence.
The two accused were released on bail on November 3 last year after spending more than three years in custody.
They are represented by Iqbal Khan and Samuela Heritage, while the State is represented by prosecutor Sheenal Swastika.
Justice Hamza extended bail for the two accused and reminded them to continue complying with their bail conditions.
The trial is scheduled to begin on June 11.
