As Tui Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua looked into the eyes of his people yesterday, he knew he was home.

“I am happy and thankful,” an emo­tional Ratu Suliano expressed as he addressed his people at Veivatuloa Village after his release from prison.

Ratu Suliano was released from prison at 1pm yesterday after serving 20 months.

He was accorded a traditional welcome ceremony.

Ratu Suliano thanked his people for their unwavering support during those trying times. He shared that, with the love of his community behind him, he knew that he could face whatever may come with grace and determination.

In his five-minute speech to his people, Ratu Suliano repeatedly expressed gratitude.

“I am always thankful. Let’s give thanks to God with all our hearts,” Ratu Suliano said.

“I am grateful to the vanua for everything. Thank you.”
