Serevi in talks with political parties ahead of election
Rugby sevens icon Waisale Serevi says drugs, youth welfare and national safety are driving his interest in politics.

Fiji rugby sevens legend Waisale Serevi says he is in talks with several political parties as he considers contesting the upcoming General Election to advocate for issues affecting young people.
Mr Serevi said he was motivated by a desire to help shape a safer and stronger Fiji for future generations.
“The opportunity to do election — it’s still open,” he said.

The former national sevens captain said he was taking his time before making any political commitment.
“A couple of parties, I don’t want to say the names, but I am still deciding and I am still praying and fasting about my choices. The best option is still open at the moment.”
Mr Serevi, 58, said his focus was on tackling social issues, particularly drug-related problems affecting youths.
“Drugs are in the country. As leaders, what are we doing?” he said.
“The youths are the future of Fiji. We need Fiji to be the best country and take it to another level.
“We can’t keep pointing fingers at the youths and saying this and that. We need to do something.”
Mr Serevi said he wanted future generations to grow up feeling safe and proud to live in Fiji.
“I have a one-year-old granddaughter and I don’t want to tell her not to go to Fiji because it’s dangerous and not to trust anyone,” he said.
“Instead, I want to tell her there is a lot to enjoy in this country.”
The Lomaiviti man believes his sporting legacy and profile could help him influence positive change if he enters politics.
