Chiping District: Small Tomatoes Become Revenue-boosting Fruit of Richness

The winter is getting severe, but it is warm as spring in the greenhouse of the tomato planting base in Handong Village, Hantun Town, Chiping District. Looking around, a ridge of tomatoes is growing pleasantly, and the shiny green leaves are dotted with red tomatoes. The villagers are busy picking, transporting, and loading baskets, and there are pleasant scenes of a bumper harvest.  

Xi Linkun, head of the tomato planting base in Hantong Village, Hantun Town, said: "The sales of tomatoes this year is mainly divided into two channels. The first is through the major supermarkets docked with the Liaocheng Market, and the second is through this online community group purchase. The tomato grown this year has been very popular and has sold out locally already." 

Xi Linkun has been growing tomatoes for ten years and has gained a wealth of experience. He attaches great importance to the selection of varieties and the control of quality. The tomatoes he grows are of good quality and have higher nutritional value than ordinary ones. Therefore, every time the tomatoes mature, his tomatoes will be booked in advance by the customer, and the price is relatively high.  

At present, tomatoes have entered the full productive stage, and can be picked once every one or two days, each time about 10,000 kilograms. The picking period is more than 70 days, and one shed of the greenhouse is expecting an estimated revenue of 40,000 yuan a year. Xi Linkun could lead a comfortable life with these tomatoes.
