Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne has opted to start Ponipate Loganimasi at full-back in next Monday’s Pacific Nations Cup (PNC) semi-final clash against Canada in Denver, Colorado.
Byrne has selected Loganimasi ahead of Tuidraki Samusamuvodre to replace the injured Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula. Moving Loganimasi to fullback, allows Byrne to give Taniela Rakuro his first Test start on the wing.
The move has created an opportunity for Fiji men’s rugby sevens star winger Jioji Nasova who has been named on the reserves.
Nasova is likely to get his Test debut later in the game.
Byrne has also gone for a new centre partnership of second five- eighth Inia Tabuavou combining with Seta Tamanivalu.
In the forwards England based prop Eroni Mawi and No.8 Viliame Mata have been pushed to the starting line-up along with rookie lock forward Mesake Vocevoce.
The match kicks-off at 12.35pm.
