Nasinu Secondary School (NSS) Under-16 girls’ manageress Vaseva Wailevu is hopeful that some of her players will go on to follow the rugby pathway to the Fijiana XV team.
This is after they defeated St Vincent College 15-0 in the Raluve final at the National Stadium last weekend.
“As long as you have confidence and love for rugby,” she said.
“The girls saw what is expected of them in terms of the technical skills they learned along the way.”
Wailevu said her team played up to the expectations of the school and parents.
“It has been a humbling experience for us, and the girls are ecstatic with the win,” she said.
“They had the confidence and the strength to deliver the game plan on the ground.”
Wailevu dedicated their win to the parents and coaching staff.
“We would also acknowledge the NSS community, who have been supporting us in our campaign,” she said.
“This has been a legacy, and the girls did their best, so we’re very proud of them.”
The Nasinu Under-16 Raluve team faced financial challenges but remained resilient throughout their campaign.
“Reaching this far, I know it’s not easy, but at the same time, the girls were resilient all this while, preparing for such a long time,” Wailevu said.
“We would also like to thank the other schools that we have met along the way. They provided a challenge for us.”
Wailevu added that her team was committed to winning the title and creating history in the Raluve competition.
“We’d like to thank our supporters and ex-scholars,” she said.
“We will try and do better next year.”
