Light Shines Bright for 68-Year-Old Joiner

A 68-year-old father who is partially visually impaired is testament to the fact that education has no limits.

Vasikale Naisova has proven that hard work and determination earned him a Certificate in Basic Joinery/Woodcraft and Handicraft during the graduation yesterday at National Council For Persons With Disabilities (NCPD) Centre.

“I believe there is no age limit to education. If you want to live your dream you should stand up and break every wall,” he said.

Mr Naisova of Cavagu Village in Bua was the oldest person among the 38 graduates.

“After dropping out from Year Eight at Solevu Primary School in Labasa I never gave up my dream to become a qualified carpenter,” Mr Naisova said.

“I used to move around villages doing some small carpentry work after receiving some oral education from my father.”

The fifth youngest of seven sib­lings said life got tough again for him when a he lost his right eye from a wood chip.

“It has been four years since I can’t see from both eyes, but when I heard that the Government is al­lowing anyone to study at the Tech­nical College of Fiji I decided to grab this chance,” he said.

The father of three children is currently a student of Ratu Epeli Ravoka Technical College in Bua, pursuing a Certificate in Carpentry.
