Charity golf raises $35,000

108 golfers took part in the charity tournament at Fiji Golf Club last Saturday.

Around $35,000 was raised during the Fiji Blind Society Charity Golf Tournament held at the Fiji Golf Club last Saturday.

Club executive Susie Yee said a total of 108 players participated in the Pirates golf club- organised tournament.

Team 4 Irons took out the title.

The team is made up of Eroni Mavoa, George Naceva, Christian Qiolevu and Lusi Leqa, who scored 60.25 points to beat the other teams, including second-placed team B Prasad & Sons (Rocky Prasad, Ricky, Tai and Kamal Singh).

Team SS Browne’s which included Nathan Browne, Greg, Eric and Margie Brownes settled for third place.

The team also won the Fiji Cancer tournament last month.

“Several juniors participated in the event, including brothers Ethan and Christian Qiolevu, Nathan Browne and Ilaitia, who were part of one of the winning teams,” said Yee.

“Three students from the Fiji Blind Society, along with Milly Cacau, were also present. They presented some of the prizes and sang songs for the players.

The organisers thanked the sponsors, with prizes awarded for 10 awards, including four nearest-to-the-pin (NTP 2) George Nacewa, Greg Browne (5), Sikipo Fihaki (12), Sunny Prasad (16) and two straightest-drive categories Sunita Matthews (women) and Jagat (men).

Raffles and an auction were also held during the evening, with Wayne Wong as master of ceremonies.

The prizegiving followed the auction and raffles, then players shared meal and drinks.
