Young people must stay rooted in their culture while pursuing education to secure a stronger future, says Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, Agni Deo Singh.

He made the call while officiating at the Seaqaqa Cultural Night last Saturday, urging families to take an active role in preserving heritage and guiding their children towards educational success.

Mr Singh highlighted the importance of teaching Hindi and Sanskrit to safeguard cultural identity and honour ancestral legacy.

“Parents should ensure their children make full use of Government’s free education programmes and the tertiary scholarship scheme,” he said.

He stressed that learning one’s mother tongue is essential for reading religious texts and benefiting from the teachings of Hinduism.

“It is our duty to instil values in our children by preserving our culture and supporting them with their education. They are the bridge between heritage and opportunity,” Mr Singh said.

He also acknowledged the Government of India for offering scholarships in areas including Hindi language and cultural studies.

The event reflected a shared responsibility to strengthen culture, education, and community development for future generations.

Mr Singh paid tribute to the girmitiya forefathers who kept their language, culture, and religious teachings alive despite hardships.
