Hindu devotees celebrating Holi are being urged to extend compassion and practical support to families affected by recent severe flooding across Fiji.
Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage, and Arts, Charan Jeath Singh, said while Holi is traditionally a time of joy and unity, many families are facing hardship after losing homes, crops, and livelihoods.
“For some, this Holi will not be marked by celebration, but by resilience and recovery,” Mr Singh said.

He encouraged all Fijians to embrace the true spirit of Holi by offering kindness, generosity, and tangible support to those in need. “Even the smallest act of compassion can restore hope and bring colour back into someone’s life,” he said.
Holi, the Festival of Colours, signifies the triumph of good over evil and reflects enduring values of unity, love, forgiveness, and joy.
Mr Singh said it is also a reminder of Fiji’s inclusive spirit and the respect shared among its diverse communities.
“During Holi, we set aside our differences and come together as one people, celebrating with our families, neighbours, and the wider community,” he said.
The vibrant colours of Holi, he noted, symbolise harmony and togetherness, transcending race, ethnicity, and background, and reflecting the multicultural Fiji people are proud to call home.
Mr Singh extended his greetings to all Fijians, wishing them renewed strength, peace, happiness, and prosperity this Holi.
