Carnival to fund classroom, police caravan
This year's theme is "Duavata For Everyone's Safety & Fight Against Drugs."

Funds raised during this year's FMF Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival will help build a classroom for students currently learning in tents at Valelawa Primary School and provide a police caravan for the North.
Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival Committee president Satish Kumar said the annual event, which began yesterday, would support both education and policing initiatives.
The carnival will run for eight days, with 24 contestants competing for various titles.

Mr Kumar said, for the first time, the Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival and the Labasa Sanatan Tournament would be held at the same venue during the same week.
"I am really happy that we have agreed that both of the events will carry on," he said.
Mr Kumar acknowledged the support of the Occupational Health and Safety Department, Labasa Town Council, the Labasa Sanatan Tournament organisers and members of the carnival committee.
FMF Foods Limited national sales manager Ganeshwar Mani said the company had a long history of supporting the carnival.
"We believe in supporting the communities in which we operate and this carnival is one of those initiatives," Mr Mani said.
He said the event not only raised awareness and funds but also brought together people from Labasa and surrounding communities in a spirit of unity and celebration.
