Miss India South Pacific debuts in Suva

Fiji will become part of a new regional cultural platform tomorrow when the inaugural Miss India South Pacific Fiji pageant is held at the Suva Civic Centre.

Procera Music Fiji chief executive officer Samuel Sen said the event marked Fiji's entry into a regional initiative linking Australia, Fiji and New Zealand through culture, leadership, fashion, entertainment and community engagement.

"More than a pageant, it is the launch of a long-term regional initiative," Mr Sen said.

"Under the theme, One Stage. Three Nations. One Movement., Miss India South Pacific celebrates young women of Indian heritage while strengthening regional friendships, cultural understanding and opportunities across the South Pacific."

Fourteen contestants from across Fiji will compete in rounds showcasing elegance, culture, personality and stage presence.

The top five contestants will earn places on Team Fiji and represent the country at the Miss India South Pacific Grand Finale in Auckland, where they will compete against finalists from Australia and New Zealand for the inaugural regional crown.

Mr Sen said the platform was designed to promote confidence, leadership, public speaking, cultural pride and community service while creating opportunities for young women.

He said the initiative would also showcase Fiji's multicultural identity, support tourism, strengthen the creative industries and create opportunities for designers, performers, photographers and production professionals.

"The inaugural event can only happen once," he said.

"Those attending will witness the selection of Fiji's first representatives to compete on the South Pacific stage and become part of what we hope will grow into an annual international tradition."

Miss India South Pacific Fiji is presented by Procera Music in partnership with Rhythm House Events & Films, organisers of Miss IndiaNZ.

Established in 2002, Miss IndiaNZ is one of New Zealand's longest-running Indian cultural pageants and will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2027.

Organisers intend for Miss India South Pacific Fiji to become an annual event and are planning to host the 2027 Grand Finale in Fiji, bringing delegates, judges, performers, media representatives and visitors from Australia and New Zealand.

Mr Sen said the long-term vision was to generate cultural, tourism and economic benefits while strengthening Fiji's international profile.

"Building on this legacy, the organisers are committed to developing Fiji as a permanent part of the South Pacific circuit," he said.

The judging panel includes local digital creator Shania Singh, fashion designer Zulfikar Ali and New Zealand choreographer Monisha Kumar.

Doors open at 6.30pm, with the programme beginning at 7pm.
