A year off for motherhood, but Drauna returns to graduate strong
Salote Drauna paused her studies after pregnancy but returned stronger to complete her nursing degree.

Despite pausing her studies for a year after becoming pregnant in 2023, Salote Dilolo Drauna has overcome challenges to graduate.
The 24-year-old from Nasekula Village, Labasa, received her Bachelor of Nursing Science from the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education during the graduation ceremony at the Civic Centre in Labasa today.
Ms Drauna began her degree in 2022 and faced numerous personal and academic challenges throughout her journey.

She said the path to graduation had not been easy.
“Managing schoolwork while caring for my child was incredibly challenging,” Ms Drauna said.
“There were nights and days full of struggle, but I never gave up.”
Her late aunty, Unaisi Drauna, who passed away in 2022, inspired her decision to pursue nursing.
“My aunty was my role model and encouraged me to choose this profession. It was heartbreaking to start this journey without her guidance,” she said.
She thanked her parents, Ratu Maikali Drauna and Lanieta Drauna, for their unwavering support.
“We are extremely proud of our daughter’s determination and achievement,” Mr Drauna said.
Ms Drauna hopes her story motivates other young women to follow their dreams despite hardship.
“If you stay determined and never give up, anything is possible. Being a mother does not stop you from achieving your goals,” she said.
Her achievement is a celebration of resilience, determination and the power of family support.
