For Savaira Veibataki, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture yesterday was not just an academic achievement, but a personal victory over significant challenges.

The Rewa woman, who studied as a private student at the Fiji National University, said one of her biggest struggles throughout her studies was limited access to learning resources, particularly not having a personal laptop to complete assignments and research.

“There was limited access to technology. I didn’t have a proper laptop, so I had to find ways around it and make use of whatever time and resources I had,” she said.

Despite the setback, Ms Veibataki remained determined, often relying on school facilities and using time after classes to catch up on academic work.

She said time management became a crucial survival skill during her studies.

Alongside technological challenges, Ms Veibataki also faced financial difficulties, which at times made her academic journey even more demanding.

However, she credited her family for supporting her throughout the process.

“I want to thank Almighty God for the blessing and unconditional love, and my family for their support. Without them, I wouldn’t have reached this point,” she said.

Ms Veibataki described her father, an agriculture manager at the corrections unit, and her mother, a teacher, as her biggest inspirations.

She said their encouragement played a major role in motivating her to complete her degree.

Ms Veibataki also dedicated her graduation to her late grandmother, who passed away earlier this year, describing her as a strong source of motivation.

Looking ahead, she plans to enter the workforce to gain experience and financial stability before pursuing further studies in agriculture.

Her message to students facing similar struggles was simple: “Don’t give up. Use whatever time and resources you have wisely. Time management and determination can take you far.”
