When Jeremaia Baba walked into the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) office two years ago, he was a recovering drug addict searching for hope.

Today, he is living proof that transformation is possible.

“I used to think my life would only take me from Suva to Lau,” he said.

“But, last year for the first time, I went overseas. You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending. Through God, people can change.”

Baba’s story set the tone as IYF officially launched Season Two of its Free We Can Academy last week at Lot One, Kinoya Road, Nasinu.

The three-month programme is designed to empower over 1,000 Fijian youths and community members through education, cultural exchange, and personal growth.

Courses include Korean and Spanish languages, dance, Korean cooking, self-defence, and Mind Education, IYF’s flagship programme that develops positive thinking, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills. All classes are completely free, ensuring opportunities for young people from all backgrounds.

Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru, who officiated the launch, commended the programme for shaping future leaders.

Our young people are the foundation of Fiji’s future.

“Programmes like this are vital in building resilient, disciplined, and forward-thinking youths who can make meaningful changes in their communities.”

The Free We Can Academy builds on the success of its first season, where many youths, like Baba, discovered confidence, skills, and a new outlook on life. An IYF representative said,” the academy is more than just classes, it’s a movement.

When the mind changes, life changes. We are seeing young people step forward and lead their communities with purpose.”

Season Two is made possible with the support of Flour Mills of Fiji (FMF), Printhouse Pacific Ltd, and Janty Kanvan Ltd (JKL), alongside media partners Fiji Sun and Fiji Times.

Through initiatives like the Free We Can Academy, IYF continues to uphold its mission: Empowering Youths, Inspiring Communities, and Changing Lives.

For youths ready to learn, grow, and make a difference, registration is open.
