Devansh Darsh Prasad, who has been receiving the top prize since Year One, continued to prove that commitment, sacrifice, and focus can bring exceptional academic success.

The 14-year-old student of Labasa Sangam Primary School claimed the Year Eight Dux Award during the school’s prizegiving ceremony in Labasa on Monday.

His teachers, parents, and peers gathered to celebrate a student widely admired for his consistency and work ethic.

Devansh said he spent years giving up his recess and lunch breaks to concentrate on schoolwork. “I completed my homework at school and used spare classes to study,” Devansh said.

He explained that improving his weaknesses had always been part of his routine.

“I reviewed my mistakes and practiced similar questions to improve,” he said.

His diligence was evident in his remarkable score of 496 out of 500, including 100 in Mathematics, 100 in English, 99 in Basic Science, 99 in Social Science, and 98 in Health Science in the annual examination.

Of Nasea, Labasa, he said he aspired to become a doctor in the future.

“I want to be a doctor to make the world a better place,” he said.

He is aiming to excel in the Fiji Year Eight Certificate Examination and hopes to earn the Northern Division Dux title.

“I aim high because I believe hard work always pays off, and I am grateful to my parents for their support,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude for the support he received from his parents and teachers. As the school’s head boy, he balanced leadership duties with academic expectations.

“Balancing the responsibilities of head boy with my schoolwork was challenging at times,” he said.

His parents, Nilesh Prasad and Ronita Maharaj, said they were proud of his dedication.

Devansh continues to be viewed as an inspiration to young students across Labasa, showing that perseverance and discipline can drive any student toward excellence.
