For Nadiya Nisa, 21, graduating with a Bachelor of Medical Imaging Science came with added honours.

She received a Certificate of Excellence and the Dean’s Honour Award at the Vodafone Arena, Suva, yesterday.

Ms Nisa, originally from Lautoka and raised in Nadi for 12 years, completed her degree in three years at the Fiji National University in Suva.

She said her passion for health services and helping people motivated her to pursue the medical field.

“Money was never the reason,” Ms Nisa said. “My passion is health service and service to the people. It is also an opportunity to work overseas.”

Despite her success, Ms Nisa said her journey was not without challenge.

“My biggest challenge was burnout,” she admitted. “Since it’s a medical field, we are constantly studying and working on many case studies. It was difficult to balance my social life with academics.”

She encouraged future students to persevere through similar struggles.

“Never give up,” she said. “Always take a pause and contemplate your life so that burnout does not overwhelm you. Let it motivate you to keep moving forward.”

After graduation, Ms Nisa plans to enter the workforce and, by God’s will, continue her studies.

She expressed gratitude to her family, friends, and mentors who supported her throughout the rigorous programme.
