Winning the Academic Excellence in Nursing Practice Award has motivated Shikha Shruti Singh to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery after completing five years of professional experience.

The 21-year-old received her Bachelor of Nursing Science from the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education during the graduation ceremony at the Civic Centre in Labasa yesterday.

Ms Singh’s milestone marked the completion of her three-year programme.

I chose nursing because I genuinely love caring for people, and it gives me a deep sense of purpose.

She said the Academic Excellence award was an honour she had not expected but deeply cherished.

“I felt immense pride when my name was called because it reminded me of the hard work and sacrifices behind this achievement,” she said.

Her academic journey, however, was not always easy.

“Some days were exhausting and full of doubt, but I kept going because I knew my dreams were worth the struggle,” she said.

She thanked her parents, Premeeta Karan and Saral Sanjeet, for their unwavering support throughout her studies.

“Our daughter has made us extremely proud,” Mr Sanjeet said. “Her commitment and perseverance have brought her this far,” Ms Karan said.

Ms Singh also acknowledged her lecturers for their guidance, saying they supported and encouraged her throughout her programme.

“Midwifery is my long-term goal, and I want to keep growing while contributing to women’s health,” she said.

She hopes her journey inspires other young women to pursue their ambitions with courage and dedication.
