Traffic congestion remains a common issue in major towns and cities during holidays, and Labasa is no exception, according to the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA).
After the Christmas traffic jams, FRA is reminding road users to plan journeys in advance, exercise patience, and remain vigilant to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians this New Year.
FRA, in a statement on Monday, said traffic congestion experienced in Labasa last week resulted from increased travel volumes during the holiday period.

The traffic in Labasa reached a tipping point, with some commuters forced to walk into town as traffic came to a complete standstill.
Labasa Town Council special administrator chair Paul Jaduram urges residents to be cautious and take extra care as streets and shopping areas are expected to be busier this week.
Mr Jaduram reminded people not to rush but to plan shopping and travel wisely, as this could help prevent accidents and reduce unnecessary stress.
“Slow down, take your time, do not drink and drive, and use taxis where possible,” Mr Jaduram said.
“Keep an eye on your children at all times. Streets are crowded and safety must remain a priority,” he added.
Mr Jaduram said safety and responsibility should remain the focus for everyone, urging residents to plan activities carefully and travel responsibly as the year comes to a close.
