Fiji Airways has announced new direct flights between the Gold Coast and Nadi, expanding its Australian network and boosting connectivity between Fiji and Australia.

The thrice-weekly service will launch on June 11, 2026, operating on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays using the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

The new route will provide a faster, more convenient travel option for passengers, with a flight time of just over three hours, and is expected to inject an additional 53,000 seats into the market annually.

Fiji Airways managing director and chief executive officer Paul Scurrah said the Gold Coast was a natural addition to the airline’s network.

“The Gold Coast is a thriving hub for tourism, business and major global events, and its growth makes it an increasingly important part of Australia’s future,” Mr Scurrah said.

“This new direct service strengthens ties between Fiji and Australia and unlocks opportunities for both outbound and inbound travel.”

He said the service would benefit travellers visiting Fiji for holidays, family visits and business, while also providing Fijians and international passengers with easier access to the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast Airport chief executive officer Amelia Evans welcomed the new route, saying it would further strengthen the long-standing relationship between Fiji and the Gold Coast.

“This new route will make it easier for Australians to holiday in Fiji, while also welcoming more Fijians travelling to visit friends and family in Australia,” Ms Evans said.

Queensland Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said the route was supported through the Destination 2045 Connecting Queensland Fund, describing it as a significant boost to tourism and the local economy.

“The Fiji–Gold Coast route opens new pathways through the United States and Canada via Nadi and is expected to contribute an estimated $51 million to the local economy,” he said.

Gold Coast becomes Fiji Airways’ seventh Australian destination, strengthening the airline’s competitive position by offering a direct service where travellers previously relied on one-stop connections.

To mark the launch, Fiji Airways has released introductory return Lite fares from Fiji to the Gold Coast starting from $799, available for sale until December 31, 2025, for travel between June 11 and November 30, 2026.

Flights will operate as follows:

FJ981: Nadi to Gold Coast – departs 9.15am, arrives 11.30am

FJ980: Gold Coast to Nadi – departs 12.30pm, arrives 5.55pm
