The newly designed banknotes that will be launched in December, will have improved features to aid the visually impaired.
This is in addition to new security features that would safeguard against the continued risk of counterfeiting.
Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) Governor Ariff Ali said that the RBF undertakes a banknote review exercise every 10 to 12 years.
He said the last review was completed in 2012, resulting in the introduction of the current flora & fauna banknote series, in circulation.
“As stipulated in the Reserve Bank of Fiji Act 1983, the RBF undertakes comprehensive technical and design reviews of Fiji’s currency to ensure national requirements are met in terms of maintaining the quality and the authenticity of currency in circulation,” Mr Ali said.
The new banknote series will come into circulation from January 2026.
The new series of banknotes will be officially unveiled by the President of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu on December 2 in Suva.
