The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has acknowledged the deteriorating condition of Lajonia Road in Labasa.
The authority says maintenance work had been delayed due to continuous rainfall affecting scheduled operations.
FRA confirmed that pothole patching for the road has been programmed for later next week, subject to favourable weather conditions.

In a statement, the authority said major “rip and remake” works for Lajonia Road will be included in its forward works programme and carried out when weather permits.
FRA stressed that sections of the road cannot be ripped and left exposed for long periods due to dust and safety concerns.
Despite these assurances, concerns remain among road users and residents, who say the condition of the road continues to affect daily travel.
Advisory councillor for Lajonia, Baram Deo, said he was aware of the poor state of the road but noted that the main road was in worse condition than some internal access roads.
Nitin Dutt, a resident of Lajonia, said the road condition makes driving difficult, especially for smaller vehicles.
“It is very hard for us to drive on this road every day. The potholes and rough surface damage our vehicles and slow us down,” Mr Dutt said.
Mr Dutt also pointed out that reckless driving by some motorists has contributed to the worsening state of the road, further damaging already weak sections.
Another resident, Shivanjali Dutt of Lajonia, shared similar concerns.
Residents are now hoping that the planned pothole repairs will begin as scheduled and that long-term rehabilitation works will be prioritised to ensure safer and smoother travel.
FRA has urged road users to remain patient, assuring that necessary works will proceed once weather conditions improve.
