A new foot crossing worth $36k, will bring relief to more than 250 residents of Navunisaleka settlement in Kalabu, Naitasiri.

This is after the Navunisaleka village headman, Sereima Saga shared that over time, school children and the elderly often faced the dangers of crossing a dangerous stream, particularly during heavy rain.

“Now, with this new foot crossing, our children can go to school safely, and the elderly can move around without fear. This project has truly brought much relief to our community,” Mr Saga said.

Commissioned by the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka, the new foot crossing replaced an old makeshift bridge that villagers relied on for their daily movements.

“This footcrossing will make a real difference in the lives of the people of Navunisaleka,” Mr Ditoka said.

“It will help children reach school safely, ensure families can travel for medical care and church services without fear, and support economic activities such as farming and market access.

“This is what development is about, improving lives, one community at a time.”

Mr Ditoka urged the people of Navunisaleka to take ownership of the project.

“I encourage the community and its leadership to continue working together to safeguard this new asset so that it serves your families for generations to come.”
