Tailevu Province unveiled one of its best assets yesterday in the form of the refurbished Ratu Cakobau House at Nausori Town.

It was commissioned by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in a solemn traditional ceremony attended by the chiefs of the province, some government ministers and officials, and the people of Tailevu.

The renovation, for a modern look, cost $4 million.

Mr Rabuka praised the people and the chiefs of Tailevu, especially Tailevu Holdings Pte Limited, for their business investment.

“Ratu Cakobau House has been a hub for our community for many years,” Mr Rabuka said.

“Today it stands as a symbol of our shared history and progress. This renovation is a step forward in empowering the people of Fiji, especially the iTaukei community, by providing better opportunities for participation in business and development.”

Hub for three provinces

Nausori Town is the municipality and business centre for the provinces of Rewa, Naitasiri and Tailevu.

Ratu Cakobau House, which houses most government departments, was opened in 1985. It is named after one of Fiji’s influential leaders, the late Bau paramount chief, Ratu Seru Cakobau.

Mr Rabuka commended the vision of the province through Ratu Cakobau House because of its location which is closer to the Nausori Bus Stand, Nausori Town commercial business district, Nausori Police Station, and Nausori Health Centre.

He said the building’s location made it accessible to members of the public to gain government services and information.

Ratu Cakobau House tenants include government offices such as the Ministry of Agriculture and the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

“This building is not just a structure, it’s a place for connection, progress, and service to the people,” Mr Rabuka said.

He said Ratu Cakobau House would be a vibrant centre for government offices and community gatherings, and would play a major role in developments taking place in Tailevu, and neighbouring provinces of Naitasiri and Rewa.
