Easter celebrations came early for residents of the Golden Age Home in Lautoka yesterday.

The TIV Sangam of the United States of America (U.S) handed over $15,000 to improve living conditions at the home.

Golden Age Home Board of Visitors secretary Selwa Nandan said former Fiji citizens in the USA continued to support vulnerable members of the community.

In September last year, the board launched a public appeal to refurbish the home at the junction of MN Naidu Road.

“Since the existing structures were condemned as unsafe due to termite infestation, arrangements were made to accommodate residents at another facility,” he said.

“A friend in need is a friend indeed. They have proved themselves. We thank them for their generosity in helping make the residence more comfortable.”

USA TIV Sangam president Arvindra Reddy said a charity event in the U.S was organised to raise funds for the contribution.

The group, made up of former Fiji citizens now living in the U.S, remains committed to supporting communities back home.

“We are here for the TISI Sangam centennial celebrations in Nadi. We are one Sangam, one family, with one purpose,” he said.

“We want to give back to the community, and this is a great opportunity to engage in.”

Executives also presented Easter gifts to residents.
