24 Hours Curfew For Eight Accused Failing To Comply To Social Gathering Restrictions

The court heard that six of the accused were arrested for drinking kava during curfew hours. Kaitani and Sabua were also arrested during curfew hours at a bus stop near Lautoka smelling of liqour.

Magistrate Peni Dalituicama ordered a 24 hours curfew for the eight accused who appeared before him at the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday.

Prakash Shonal Shavneel, Ashneel Kumar, Rajesh Kumar, Nitendra Prasad, Ravin Kumar, Veenil Chand, Sera Kaitani and Litia Sabua were charged with breaching the nationwide curfew and failure to comply with orders for social gathering restrictions.

The court heard that six of the accused were arrested for drinking kava during curfew hours. Kaitani and Sabua were also arrested during curfew hours at a bus stop near Lautoka smelling of liqour.

“The Natabua Remand Centre is full. We will not send you there but will bring prison to your home. You are not allowed to go out of the boundary of your home.”

Magistrate Dalituicama told the accused. They were granted a $500 bail bond.

Meanwhile, Kaitani and Sabua were remanded at the Natabua Women’s Remand Centre.

Magistrate Dalituicama adjourned the case to May 1.
