A Suva-based lawyer charged in relation to the alleged possession of illegal drugs has been granted bail and is due to reappear in court next month.

Shazran Abdul Lateef appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza yesterday, where he was granted $500 bail.

Lateef is charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs. It is alleged that he was found in possession of 0.584 grams of methamphetamine on December 4 last year.

The court heard that Lateef was scheduled to appear on December 17, but the matter could not proceed after he collapsed at the Police Prosecutions Office and was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The case has been adjourned to February 17 for further proceedings.
