64-year-old man charged with raping granddaughter, ODPP reveals

There were 18 victims, of whom 11 were under the age of 18. Seventeen victims were female and one was male.

A 64-year-old man was charged with the rape of his five-year-old granddaughter, one of several serious sexual offence cases filed in the High Court last month.

The case was among 18 indictments filed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in the High Courts of Fiji in February 2026, involving a total of 40 counts of sexual offences.

The charges include 26 counts of rape, 12 counts of sexual assault, one count of indecent assault and one count of defilement.

A total of 18 accused persons were charged with the offences, including one juvenile.

Domestic incidents

Eight incidents involved victims who were related to the accused.

In one case, a 29-year-old man was charged with one count of rape of his four-year-old stepson.

A 47-year-old man was charged with two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault of his 15-year-old stepdaughter.

In another incident, a 44-year-old man was charged with two counts of rape and five counts of sexual assault.

A 36-year-old man was charged with two counts of rape of his 10-year-old stepdaughter.

In another case, a 55-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 63-year-old former partner.

A 23-year-old man was charged with one count of rape of his 17-year-old cousin, while a 30-year-old man was charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault of his 19-year-old cousin.

 

Juvenile accused

In one incident, a 17-year-old boy was charged with one count of rape of a 22-year-old woman.

 

Other incidents

In separate incidents, a 55-year-old man was charged with four counts of rape of a 17-year-old girl.

A 35-year-old man was charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.

A 25-year-old man was charged with one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl. The accused is known to the victim’s family.

In another case, a 22-year-old man was charged with one count of defilement of a 14-year-old girl.

 

Cases discontinued

The ODPP said two cases were discontinued after nolle prosequi were filed, citing insufficient evidence and the unavailability of victim to give evidence during trial dates.
