Acting Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service, Sevuloni Naucukidi, has been granted bail after appearing in the Suva Magistrates Court this morning charged with one count of criminal intimidation.

He appeared before Resident Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne.

The charge relates to an alleged threat made against a member of his support staff in July this year. The court was told that the alleged victim is no longer employed by the Corrections Service.

Naucukidi’s lawyer applied for bail, informing the court that his client is scheduled to travel to New Zealand tomorrow as part of an official delegation with the Minister for Justice.

Bail was granted with strict conditions, including that Naucukidi surrender his travel documents when he returns to Fiji on October 17.

He is expected to reappear in court at 2.30pm today to present documentation supporting his official travel.

His lawyer also confirmed that Naucukidi remains in his post as Acting Commissioner and has not been suspended.
