Alleged Cop Killer Hearing Moved To Next Fortnight

Lalaobouma is charged with the murder of 24-year-old Police Constable Siuta Niumataiwalu, robbery, theft and serious assault

Judge Justice Sunil Sharma moved the pretrial checklist hearing date for the case of alleged cop killer Vilimoni Lalaobouma to next fortnight upon the request of state prosecutor Rukalesi Uce.

The case was called at the High Court in Lautoka yesterday and the accused was represented by Legal Aid Commission lawyer Jowen Singh.

Lalaobouma is charged with the murder of 24-year-old Police Constable Siuta Niumataiwalu, robbery, theft and serious assault.

It is alleged that on October 21 2019, Lalaobouma took out a kitchen knife and stabbed the late Constable Niumataiwalu who was attempting to apprehend him for allegedly seriously assaulting and robbing a 52-year-old farmer along Yaweni Street, Lautoka.

Ms Singh told the Court the matter for the pretrial checklist hearing and that the defence had forwarded its comments to the state.

Ms Uce confirmed that the state had received the comments from the defence however, would be seeking for another date for the pretrial checklist hearing.

Justice Sharma adjourned the case to September 14 for pretrial checklist hearing and issued a production order for the accused as he is currently in remand.
