Bail extended for bus driver charged in fatal Victoria Parade accident

The Suva Magistrates Court has extended the bail of a 23-year-old Nasese bus driver charged in connection with a fatal road accident along Victoria Parade in Suva.
Ronal Vikash Nair appeared before Magistrate Shaheen Hettiwattage today charged with dangerous driving causing death.
The court heard that the charge relates to an incident in October 2023, in which a 23-year-old woman was struck by a bus driven by Nair at a pedestrian crossing near the Suva Civic Centre. She later died from injuries sustained in the accident.

In extending bail, Magistrate Hettiwattage noted the seriousness of the charge and reminded Nair of the need to strictly comply with all bail conditions until the matter is finalised.
The court was told that Nair has been complying with his bail requirements, including reporting to the Nakasi Police Station every Saturday.
Prosecutors confirmed there had been no breaches of the bail conditions imposed earlier.
The matter has been adjourned to March 31 for mention.
