The Magistrates Court in Suva has issued a bench warrant for former Hibiscus contestant and activist, Zoe Maharaj-Moore, yesterday.

Maharaj-Moore is charged alongside former Suva lawyer, Shazran Abdul Lateef, with three counts of possession of illicit drugs.

Lateef was present in court but Maharaj-Moore failed to appear. Her lawyer Gavin O’Driscoll told the court that the accused was sick and had asked her to provide medical evidence for the court records.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Ravi Narayan had sought for a bench warrant to be issued for Maharaj-Moore.

Magistrate Daurewa adjourned the matter for mention on January 8 before presiding Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa. Bail for Lateef in the matter has been further extended.

It is alleged that Lateef and Maharaj-Moore on July 14, 2019, at Raiwaqa without lawful authority, were in possession of 7.89 grams of methamphetamine, 12.49 grams of cocaine, and 2.5 grams of cannabis sativa.
