Two Chinese nationals accused of drug-related offences will remain in custody until translators are arranged, the Nadi Magistrates Court heard today.

Xu Qiang and Wang An appeared under heavy police escort following their arrest in connection with the discovery of more than 800 grams of methamphetamine. Their lawyer, Rajeshneel Chand, told the court that proper proceedings could not continue until Chinese translators were secured.

Magistrate Semi Babitu adjourned the matter to September 29 for a proper call.

The pair face one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs and one count of possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime under the Proceeds of Crimes Act.

Police allege the two are linked to a methamphetamine interception in Namaka, and the case may also be tied to ongoing drug investigations in the Southern Division.
